Greetings and welcome relatives!
I am a young Indigenous woman, born and raised in the Northern Rocky Mountain Region. I’m a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Sociology and a minor in Native American Studies. I will be starting my Masters of Arts in Anthropology with an emphasis in Linguistics/Cultural Hertiage at the University of Montana this Fall 2025.
The name given to me is Stands In The Light and I am an enrolled member of the Crow Tribe (Apsáalooke Nation) located in southeastern Montana. I am a member of the Whistling Water Clan (Bilikooshe) from my mother and a child of the Ties-the-Bundle Clan (Xuhkaalaxche) from my father. My family comes the Mighty Few District also known as Iikooshtakaatbaatchaache.
I am starting this blog to share scholarly articles, recommendations, and opportunities for young Native American youth across the country and within Montana. Within my writing you will enjoy personal reflections and sociological analysis, mental health advocacy and tips about the pathway towards higher education.
I enjoy music, specifically rap and Korean pop. I spend a lot of time learning about my family history and have a deep love for my culture and people. I hope you gain insight from my silly thoughts and find connection in what I have to share.
This is a safe space for young Indigenous people who are still trying to figure out their way in life. Ultimately, you are not alone and in this online community, I hope you will feel supported.
Lets take a trip into my mind and see what we find.
